Quick weather note

Picked up 0.65" of good soaking rain Tuesday.

Next big issue will be this Friday...should be some solid thunderstorm activity ahead of an incoming cold front, and some severe, hail-producing storms are expected here in ACA.  Just good ol' FYI.

Mo' Rain today.....

Quite a good thunderstorm hit around here yesterday afternoon.  I ran some errands around 5p (after I looked for my wallet for a good 30 minutes!)...while it was raining, apparently it stormed especially hard on the ridge across Mauney Cove Road from ACA.  The flash flooding all down Mauney Cove Road was impressive.

My gauge totaled just 1.26" of rain for the past couple of days (about an inch Sunday, and 1/4" from the storm).  Compared to what a lot of locations got, we were on the lower end of amounts.

The National Weather Service out of GSP just sent out an email giving a 'heads up' for more flooding storms later today.  The ground is obviously saturated and the runoff will be immediate.  Just a heads up for you travelers.  May be more severe cells than there were yesterday, too.

Of Storms and Music...

Last Saturday morning we had a dying squall line move in from the NW...thankfully with nowhere near the potency of the one a week or so prior that brought damaging winds and hail to ACA.  While the precipitation was falling apart, the wind field was impressive enough to create the gust front pictured below as it rolled in over the mountains.  Soon after the picture, rain enshrouded the view (click pic to enlarge).

FYI, from last week's rain events, I measured only 0.88" of rain - plenty nice (steady and light), but nowhere near the multiple inches received farther south and east.

Proud to have two ACA residents fully involved in the music scene.  The newest to join in is Al Rose, lead guitarist and vocalist for Tarnished Rose.  They'll be performing at the Frog Level Brewing Company this Saturday evening, from 6p to 8p.  If you like 60's classic rock-n-roll and blues, then you'll enjoy what they're playing!

Lorraine Conard is in the 'big time' musically, of course, but her group won't be performing locally until May 26, two weekends from now (not that I'm aware of, anyway).  From 1p-3p they'll be performing in what will be a day of family-oriented music and fun in celebration of the Grand Opening of Headwaters Brewing Company on Frazier Street in Waynesville.  Mark your calendars now!
