Upcoming Weather

Here is your 50-cent word for the day: Graupel.  Late afternoon yesterday, with the air temp at 44 degrees, I had a burst of graupel, itsy bitsy balls of snow.  Melted very quickly, that little odd occurrence...but my "odd" record was 3 minutes of sleet with the air temp at 50.4 degrees north of Asheville many moons ago.

Just added these pics taken at 2pm...a valley rainbow running up the Maggie Valley highway (click to enlarge):

No travel issues, but don't be surprised to see some snow flying after darkfall, mainly for the upper half of ACA.  It's mainly a TN border issue, up to 1", done by midnight.  Later this week, Friday night, there will another chance for limited snow coming in with some really cold air for the weekend...if that is going to be a travel issue, I'll write more Friday morning.  Not anticipating it at this time...just keeping my heavy coat handy.
